Apistos in a 40 breeder?

I have a 40 gallon breeder and really wanted to try some egg layers to breed in the tank. I was wondering if 1 male and 3 females along with 8 gold lasers would do good on the bottom. I also wanted to do a school of paskai rainbows. This will be a planted tank with driftwood and lots of rocks (if this even is a good idea). What are your thoughts? Will anything breed in this setup?

Apistos are benthic, and though they’d get along with Corydoras, you might find that breeding could be challenging. I don’t immediately see a problem with rainbows and Apistos together… but they _might_ prefer different water conditions. I’d try it though. The thing us, if those Rainbows feed all through the water column, they might feed on Apisto fry. But in general, if you use floating mops to breed the Rainbows up top and caves to breed Apistos below, maybe it could work for you!

I have had a similar setup and although eggs would get laid, I would never get fry from it. It wasn’t till I started pulling the cave once the eggs were layer was I able to get fry to grow out. I did notice a lot of competition between the moms and watching their batches of eggs.

Apistos would do well in a 40 gallon, adding the rainbows will likely put an end to successful breeding. I raise apistos in a 35 gallon 2 female 1 male, siphon out the fry with airline tubing and raise them seperate. I dont think with rainbows you would have any survive.
