You have convinced me that we need a York in our aquarium also!  I'll keep an eye out at the LFS to see what I can find.  I saw a local add for someone selling them.  Most were purple but the price seemed very reasonable.

You will love your snail! They are mesmerizing to watch (and sometimes just plain silly).

The couple with the 120 gallon are coming by again today. At first they wanted 6 snails and then after a few minutes they messaged again to ask if I have 10. I do. 18 was the last count. Boy is the tank going to be bare! 🥲But I know these guys boil the veggies and spoil the snails, so that’s ok. Some of my snails are still small!  I wonder if that is because they were having trouble competing against the big ones (some are nickel sized or bigger) for food. For example, look at this big chonker!

I will continue to raise the small ones and take down my ads.

Look who is at the food dish today, eating the scraps! I almost didn’t see him; he blends in!

The anacharis I put in the tank is making neat hanging roots. I like it. Also the snails reach for them and slurp them like spaghetti. 🙂

See all the algae back there? That’s a limpet buffet. I see a nerite in my near future. 🙂

York has laid clutch 14 and is now taking a nap on the front glass.

That’s all for now!

Meet Button, the newest recruit to the family. Button is a nerite snail (olive??). I think the black trim on her whorl is so pretty. She is going to help with tidying up the growout tank. There are plenty of algae noms in there for her. Even a little bit of green hair algae has started growing on one of the pots.

She’s very spunky, and she tried to escape her bag during drip acc! Hard to drip acc something that doesn’t want to stay in the water! I will need to be extra careful with this one- checking all the lid gaps are sealed every day! She got a little shell rubbing in my own tank water, as I did with Dodger, to help ensure no nasties enter the tank. She was out the whole time I was handling her. Not a shy one at all.

Button did a great job cleaning the tank corner overnight.

I feel a little depressed. I fed a little chunk of zucchini after yesterday’s big adoption, and only 4 snails came to the dish. 😭 The other 4 mysteries + Button + Lil Guy were cruising around. The tank seems so different without the big gang!

I did get an update from the couple who adopted the largest number of snails. 4 at first, then another 10. The snails are all hanging out in a 55-gallon but will eventually be divided between a 160-gallon and some other tanks, I think several 20 gallons. Here’s where the snails are now, and everyone is doing well. I love when I get updates. ☺️

They said one mystery adventured onto the HOB outflow, cleaned it, then took a ride on the waterfall to the bottom of the tank. 🤣

Hmmm after seeing this and @Katherine comment on another thread I think I don’t actually have any olive nerites. Nemo was sold to me as an olive and sort of looked olive/brown and the same as the others I got just labeled nerites. Katherine I think you are very correct that snail was a black racer and all of mine I thought were olive are black racers. Chick yours looks like an actual jar of olives.  The shell is different as Katherine mentioned. 😁 I love this forum. I learn new things every day 🤗. You guys rock!

This is so confusing LOL

confused the lion king GIF

Two of mine are jet black. One is this strange brownish greenish color. The shell from before I got him is greener and the shell from my tank is browner.

One of mine is jet black. One brown with some black growth from the lfs and some brown/hint of green. It is confusing. I am following @Katherine description. To me they are all just nerites. I even have one that’s zebra patterned but on a dark cherrywood background.
I am just thrilled they do windows 🤣

Me too.  The algae on my glass would NOT come off when I used the magfloat, then I tried to use a paper towel but it is the strong stubborn non-scrubbable type. But the nerite chews right through it, no problem.

Also, not to enable you or anything (*wink wink*) but you were trying to collect all the types of nerites, now you know you're missing a type sooo... new mission?  hehehe...

ORD 🤣. I’m missing olive, and horned, and red racer and and and about 100 other nerite varieties. Mission declined 🤣

@Guppysnail @Katherine help. I noticed an inactive snail and I let him go for a few days, but he remained (suctioned) in the same spot (on moss). Fearing he is ill, I gave him a 10 minute air bath under observation, ensuring he stayed moist. I used my magnifying glass and it looks like he has a cracked shell. Does it look that way to you? What can I do? VERY small snail, peppercorn.

At that size just keep pristine water. He will grow rapidly enough it should not affect him since you give them an excellent diet and care. If his shell was so thin it cracked easily he may have other issues he was born with causing poor health and shel quality.

I was wondering about that since Chick's others are so much larger. I've got a few still absolutely tiny compared to most of my hatch as well.

Yeah I get 1-2 or sometimes a few more that stay tiny then pass either very young or at a few months old.

I am wondering if the little ones were outcompeted for food.

This one I am not sure will make it. He spent the whole day on his back in the same spot. That’s the whole reason I took him out- lack of movement for long durations. When I did the welfare check I saw him put the thin feeler out, but not much else. I have him in the breeder box with a little piece of food and moss.
