Syafiq Faisal Posted May 27, 2022 Share Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) The left one is the test for my shrimp & snails aquarium. and the right one is my betta. both of this is never been changes for 2 weeks water. just add up some new water. should i do water changes 25%? pls help me. thankyou ( the color for both water is slightly brown because i use almond leaf - ketapang leaves) Results After 10 hours. I already change 25% of water for shrimp and clean the filter. Add up new filter. And cut some plants. the first picture is two weeks ago setup. Flumpweesel Posted May 28, 2022 Share Posted May 28, 2022 Ok any ammonia is bad so I would do a big water change on the one on the right now then, monitor it closely to keep it below 1. Looks like that tank hasn't cycled yet so with the Betta in there you need to keep the water comfy for the fish bit with enough ammonia in there to get the cycle going. This can be a tricky balancing act. Nitrite isn't good either so I'd change 25% on that and again keep a close eye for it raising. It looks like that tank is further along on its cycle By close eye test the water daily. This intense spell is normally only for a few weeks and if you add some plants they will absorb both these to help you. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Brian Posted May 28, 2022 Share Posted May 28, 2022 How big are the aquarium’s? How long have they been set up? I would stop adding food to the tanks and if the animals are not showing signs of stress maybe a small water change, maybe 10% -15%. Can you test the source of your water? You may have high amounts in your source/tap water. If it checks ok, maybe do another water change of about the same amounts. Leave them alone for a couple hours and test again. Brian Posted May 28, 2022 Share Posted May 28, 2022 Ok. So these are new setups. Aquariums are just cycling. Most likely it’s not the source/tap it is the cycle of the tank. I would not clean any glass, decorations or filters. Don’t feed, and due a water changes. Healthy animals can go days without us feeding them. The nitrite still high which 0.25? 0.30? The ammonia still in low level which is 0.4 or 0.2. The results for tap water is pretty clear that both of ammonia and nitrite really low. Can I make a water change right now? Does coral stone/ calcium stone affect the nitrite level? Cus I put some of that in my mini aquarium. If that's the water you are testing then it's not just a cycling issue. The smaller the container, the harder it is to keep the water parameters healthy. I would highly suggest at least a 5 gallon tank per betta. You are just going to be continually struggling otherwise. Smaller sizes LOOK like they might be easier but in fact they are harder. Guppysnail Posted May 29, 2022 Share Posted May 29, 2022 When you talk new filter. If you menyou replaced the carbon cartridge that could be disrupting your cycle. Syafiq Faisal Posted May 30, 2022 Author Share Posted May 30, 2022 Hey guys. Seems yesterday I did a 25% water change for my shrimp tank. Then one of them just have white ring. Some of 2/3 shrimp in night keep swimming around. This morning I decide to catch them all put in this container. I use 30% water from the aquarium and put some 60% new water. The results for nitrite still same after couple of hours. (8 hours). For the aquarium I already add up new Dr tank tablet. Just waiting for 3 days results.
