plantedtanks1052
I was wondering if I could put 1 single jewel cichlid in this 10 gallon by itself. No other tank mates. TIA for the advice. Here's a photo of the tank
Patrick_G
If it’s a juvenile it might work for a short term, but if it’s an adult I wouldn’t do it.
Beardedbillygoat1975
They like a species only tank and like for there to be 5-8 individuals minimum. Not sure it would be a good wet pet for a 10 g. Part of the attraction of Jewels js their interaction. The chasing and displays. You could do a pair of kribs in a 10 g. A single male apistogramma and some dwarf corys. A group of shell dwellers can work in a 10.
Fish Folk
@plantedtanks1052 let us all help you find something you'd really like! Can you explain what you appreciate about the Jewel Cichlid? Did you find one locally to you? Are you attracted to their coloration? Personality? Here is an excellent older video from Jason at Prime Time Aquatics about them. Jewel Cichlids come in two common color morphs: Red-base, and Turquoise base: I think that if you're into the colors, you might consider a male Apistogramma macmasterii instead of the red Jewel. . . Or a male Apistogramma borelii instead of the turquoise Jewel Cichlid. Edited May 27, 2022 by Fish Folk 1

Or I might do some pygmy sunfish.

plantedtanks1052
I wanted a cichlid type of displaying. I had a super red apistogramma for 4 years and then I just got this Bolivian Ram I'm after my apistogramma died.
