This is so neat, I had no idea that banana plants were native to US. 

I have harvested what looks like a crypt from the edges of the pond on my property and tried to keep them alive in an aquarium but they all ended up eventually dying. I'm, not sure what it was from, water warmer, not enough light etc.

🙂 Good point, @Randy 🙂 Though in my neck of the woods, no matter where you go you got something that might eat you.  Gators in the creeks, sharks in the ocean, and bears in the woods. 

On a sidenote, that does remind me of a good story of a local man who tried to wrestle a gator a while back.  Bless his heart.

I love the oldschool aquarium plants. Bannana plants are my favorite of the ones im aware of. They are so easy to grow and to propogate. Not to mention how amazingly cheap they are. I belive the CO OP sells them for $3.99.

I think any time of year or season is okay. I have seen them in winter, spring, summer and fall here in North Carolina and they always look about the same to me.

That's fascinating! Here in MD I've found some Ludwigias, and Didiplis Diandra, along with some other mosses (although the mosses struggled in my tank).

Like you, I love collecting plants, @Daniel! I'd love to come down there one day and collect some banana plants of my own!
