Started a separate thread about an issue with the new goldfish, it seems he might have a slight swim bladder issue. I was afraid of this. I'm hoping he will grow strong with time and be able to live a happy life as it's so slight. He might not be as active as my other 2 for his whole life, which is disappointing for me to watch, but as long as he is comfortable and happy I will be happy!

Super sad news, he passed away last night. He had started pineconing so I gave him a salt bath and then he got worse and began doing the "death roll". Found him deceased this morning. A valuable lesson learned about buying juvenile goldfish, I will have to buy an adult next time when I am ready.

So it finally happened, my calico goldfish got a ramshorn snail stuck in her throat. We were on a weekend vacation and I noticed as soon as I walked in the door that she has something stuck in her throat. She couldn't eat, but other than that seemed okay. I was so scared of hurting her I ended up chickening out, but my dad was able to hold her and use these angled tweezers to get it out. I don't think she's hurt at all is is eating, swimming and acting normally. Silly goldfish! Hopefully there is no next time, but I have to be prepared to do it myself if there is.

So I found out my local Petland actually has an amazing fish selection. I’ve never seen so many high-quality platy variations or such lush plants. All their tanks looked clean and their fish healthy. So I finally paid them a visit last night with the intention of buying something. I got 2 high-fin platies for my tropical community tank, a gorgeous tiger lotus, and my third and final goldfish. They either had babies or real big boys, and their prices on their large goldfish were amazing! I got this guy for $45. I think my memory on my other goldfishes’ sizes was skewed, because I wasn’t expecting this one to be so much bigger!! But they are all getting along swimmingly, and I think I lucked out with the new one also being a female. I believe my smaller calico is as well, with my smallest golden one being a male who chases and courts them both. Here are pictures of the new lady, who my fiancé has dubbed “Bradley” C59925B4-457B-4B19-A65A-8F32C31C3A68.jpeg.45c782f19c4fc24a2195c91c3258e812.jpeg3420331F-62C1-41D6-AC71-70F12CF2337D.jpeg.894b8111236c121a3cb300e06a7d58a1.jpeg7D26F50D-4E4B-4740-89AC-C8A0795BA23E.jpeg.10638c2bff4cac52cda63a57def54652.jpeg283EC9F2-21B9-4580-AE07-BC43AED4F7ED.jpeg.6fb0cef98d7cb39e28952487dd201537.jpegC5A51C5C-5F32-4172-8865-8F1FE7AC89A6.jpeg.c2a51c96846d176b01d78fac63304d2f.jpegE760F497-3698-42FB-A654-FB5072957B80.jpeg.418b7cadedc6db93daf74be856b300ae.jpeg5072837A-82CC-4814-A550-A0065F06BE47.jpeg.d2876f385e0e1d9db351d1c1978a9574.jpeg

dojo loach might attack fancy goldfish

That's what I heard when I inquired about them at my local fish store, so I decided not to buy any. Right now I just have 6 nerite snails in the tank as bottom feeders. One day, when the tank has matured I might try Hillstream Loaches! I was sad to hear that because dojos seem so personable and cute, but not worth risking any aggression.

Little update on this gorgeous tank, everyone is still doing great and I've had no deaths 🙂 I think my 2 smaller goldfish might be growing a little slowly, but they're very active and happy so I'm not overly concerned. I feed them once a day so I know they're getting enough to eat. They all get along swimmingly lol, and have good dynamics with no bullying. In the past week or so the biggest goldfish is laying down on the substrate for a while each day, but she always perks up when I come check on her and seems to be able to swim fine. I don't see any sores or injuries on her belly from laying on the substrate so I'm just going to continue to monitor for now and hope it's just want she's wanting to do and not a health issue.

I thought of you when I saw this @Hannah Parker.  It explains how pothos greatly controls the nitrate levels in goldfish tanks!

Thank you so much!! I need to take a picture of my updated pothos stems, I finally have leaves and the roots are finally starting to take off! I think they will being the help a lot now 🙂
