Not sure if we can post other LFS's names on here, so I'll stick to the Clubs. I know York has the Cichilid Club of York (CCY) and south is Capital Cichlid Association (CCA) and both have meets. I just know there are a handful of local breeders of various stuff in your area too.

I am in York,PA.  There is one decent fish store in Lancaster and a club.  It’s a bit far from me to be involved.  Just looking to see who is in my area, if you know of any hidden gem LFS and the like.

Are you going to the Lehigh swap this weekend?
I went to the ACLC meeting last month and joined.  I was impressed with the meeting, much different than I expected.  Seems some of the meetings are held at your LFS as well

How far are you from Glen Burnie, MD?

@SJ fishing thank you for the info. I was not aware of the Lehigh swap. I will look it up. We already have plans this weekend so I doubt I can go to this one.

That pet place is about 45 minutes from me so to far to commute regularly. I’m about an hour and 20 minutes from Glen Burnie.

Definitely worth the trip to check them out for selection. Last I was there they had two Spotted Congo Puffers looking for their forever homes. Key thing with this store is to just take your time and take a look at everything in the tank before getting something net out. Variety is there, but quality is a dice roll depending on where they came from. Thankfully they don't just keep one tank of a lot of the popular stuff, so if you see something funky going on in one tank, you can more than likely find another tank of what you want that is much healther. I suspect it's based on being from different shipments (i.e. semi established in their system vs. a recent shipment that didn't go through QT.)

As for shrimp, they have tons of them. Most are in great condition, the only big concern are the shrimp tanks are full of the bad planaria.

Concerns I've mentioned are in no way to bash them. This store is generally so busy that I sort of understand their limitations. Just thankful to have a LFS in the state like them with tons of variety, plants galore, and the oddball stuff that I can't get elsewhere.

@Fish Folk I'm over in Baltimore.  Frederick isn't too far, although I have some unpleasant history there.  Long story.

I come out to PVAS meetings in Fairfax, VA from time to time on 1st Saturdays of each month. Maybe someplace north of DC could work? Just musing about an informal … meet in a backroom at some restaurant … swap fish and plants … tell “origin stories” 😂

Frederick is a good two hours from me without traffic (lol funny joke right there 🤪). I’m on the Eastern Shore so nothing is close to me, but I’m hoping to make it to at least one PVAS meeting this summer just for fun.

I went to my first Cichlid Club of York meeting. It was nice. Scored some nice stuff for next to nothing $. Salvinia minima, Riccia flutans ( included unintended but welcome bonus frogbit, duckweed and mts snails) . The snails I have no place for so I’m going to set them up in a bucket until I find them a home. Frogbit and duckweed I’m going to carefully nurse dishes on my windowsill.  Maybe I can keep a container of each going. Both die in my tanks but my critters love eating it.  I also impulse bought a ready to harvest micro worm culture and 2 infusoria small cultures both with floating frogbit  D1184893-16E2-4A8C-ABB8-E5CA0AA6B5C8.jpeg.66253b6ddde4e31fe2749c497665ac5c.jpeg

@Fish Folk I thought if you.  Jennifer Williams who apparently won some impressive awards for NANF Biotope tanks did the talk. She set up a tank while she was explaining it and how to enter those competitions.4EF5AC1B-A35E-4D7C-869C-B0C4BE2AA769.jpeg.ea33827aae32eaf313940a550bd81dbd.jpeg

They did a fish bowl competition.  Most stunning cherry barb I’ve seen won  I did not get a pic though  BC878299-CA17-4DB7-8B95-17FC5479B3C5.jpeg.adbee23bc1ab99c8926e2cf522a4f93c.jpeg

Most definitely worth going. They are gearing up because I guess they are part of hosting Keystone Clash.
