TeeJay
I have a 29 gal planted tank with guppies snails and a few ghost shrimp. About 18-20 fish total. Snail count is 4. Tank has been set up about 90 days. About 8 plants plus a Java moss mat. Now my co op test strips says my nitrates stay right around 50 ppm on occasion to maybe 80 ppm. But my liquid test kits shows my my nitrates hitting 100-150ppm. Should I trust one results over another more? I don't want to hurt my fish but want to keep enough nitrates for my plants as well. KBOzzie59
Has the lid on the test strips been on tight? I recently had the same discrepancy. The test strips in question had been left open in the breeding room for a couple days.
TeeJay
No I have only had the test strips maybe 45 days at most and always take one out and out the lid right back on so I don't think I'm getting moisture or to much extra oxegen to them. AndreaW
Typically liquid test kits are going to be more accurate results, but I've heard the ACO test strips are pretty great. With that discrepancy, I would call your fish store and see if they can test the nitrates for you to see if you can get a third result for more clarity.
