Redwing RC
I collected several samples of cushion moss and other varieties around the woods and want to use it in my shrimp tanks. Any suggestions to acclimating it to underwater moss? Can it be done?
Tihshho
Not all moss can go fully aquatic. Terrestrial mosses will grow for a bit, but more than likely you'll run into issues where the mosses will die back and cause a big ammonia boom. On top of that, depending on where you pulled the moss, you're going to be bringing in a ton of organics which will decompose quickly, especially if this was moss off of rotting wood. For a terrarium, this stuff can work, but if you're looking for something submersed I would get a clump of something that is able to go truely aquatic from your LFS or a local hobbyist.
Streetwise
I have tested terrestrial moss, and it does best on emergent wood that just touches the waterline.
