Does algae reducer degrade or only go away with water changes?

I added Imagitarium algae reducer to the tank a week ago and a second dose a day later for a HAIRY green hair algae explosion. I had planned to get a few shrimp and a snail, but the algae reducer is not safe for snails so that has been on hold. Do I need to work several water changes before I can think about getting a snail? I regret using the stuff now but boy it was ugly in there.

I can find no info online about the duration of the chemical. The label says poly (oxyethelene) (dimethyliminio) ethylene (dimethyliminio) ethylene dichloride (that's a nightmare to type I hope I got it right).

I'm not sure, but I think this would be a situation where you would need to do lots of water changes and possibly even carbon to remove the chemicals before it would be safe for snails. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Thanks. Using sponge filters so would have to look into that. I'm planning a significant water change this weekend so I'll get rid of some at least
