Java moss on wire mesh

Just got my Java moss in from the co-op. Is it safe to put it straight into the tank on the mesh or should I attach it to rocks and wood?

Ok cool. I just didn't know if the mesh would rust and break down putting junk into the water

I actually sent support this question a while back and they let me know the mesh is stainless steel and perfectly fine to leave in the aquarium.

Has anyone had an issue with the mesh and their bottom dwellers? I purchased it to put the java moss down like a little carpet patch but I'm worried about the mesh and my corys.

Welcome to the forum @Cbarbe. I'd probably be worried too. I've looked at those before and it's not like they make sure all the sharp metal isn't sharp anymore. With fish like cory that tend to root around in the substrate I wouldn't do it. That's just me though! Personally I would dry start some of the moss on a rock, decor or wood until it anchors itself then put it in the tank. 

I just myself tried dry starting and it was easy. If you have an empty QT tank or a good glass container (like a large jar) chop up some java and place it on the hardscape of your choice. Spray it with a spray bottle and place some plastic wrap over the container or lightly close the lid. Make sure it has plenty of light and humidity and give it a few weeks- it will be a lovely addition to your tank. Just look at what doing that did for my moss tree to the far left and on the arch/rocks etc:

I've had one of these in my tank with pygmy corys for close to a year and have not seen a barbel problem.  I initially just set it on the substrate but it never "stuck", and now that the moss has grown into a big bush the mesh floats an inch or so off the substrate and the corys like to hang out under it, it's their favorite hideout.  In sum, the mesh has not been a problem in my experience.
