Bronze Cory with Injury?

Hi all,

I am posting this for one of my family member's.

They have a 5 gallon (which is pretty overstocked) I was not able to get any of the water tested but most of the fish and the other bronze cory's appeared healthy and active.

This one is not moving to much and according to them stops moving at times. I think it might be a wound from a growth but am not sure. Im not sure how to best advise them as to care for this beyond the normal aquarium  salt, antibacterial and antifungal dosing.

Here are some photos I took at the time.

Any help appreciated.

Water Quality Update

So I tested the water this morning for them and here the results.

Gh 180 ppm

Kh 0 ppm

Ph 6.5

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 80 ppm

Without noing your water parameters it difficult to no the cause a 5 gallon on the small side for bronze Cory's it's more than likely a bacterial infections caused by poor water quality or stress due to the overstocking I would treat with kanaplex in food feed a small amount twice a day for 7 days  if you can test your water just in case something off such as high levels of ammonia or nitrites  and post the water parameters that would be helpful

Hi @Colu I tested the water and here are the results

Gh 180 ppm

Kh 0 ppm

Ph 6.5

Nitrite 0

Nitrate 80 ppm

I unfortunately have no ammonia test so there is no way to have that number, the infection sight has gotten a little larger and more red since yesterday. They ordered the Kanaplex and said it would be at their house in 2 days.

The  high levels of nitrates you have can effect a fish immune system I would do a 50 water change to get them below 40

Alright I'll get a water change done, it is incredibly overstocked. They have 1 Siamese algae eater, 1 teacup platy, 3 albino bronze cory's, 6 neon tetras, and 6 white cloud mountain minnows all in a 5 gallon vertical rectangular tank. Any ideas for how to tell them that they need to destock their tank?

Maybe you could sit down with them and explain the amount of fish in the tank is causing the illness in the Cory's and causing water quality issue and recommend that they get a bigger tank or re-home some of the fish

agree, they could probably use some educating, to help make sure this isnt a never ending thing.

0 KH is always a concern, as it could be resulting in a PH crash. For example, you measured it PH at 6.5. I am curious what the PH is out of the tap. It could be significantly higher, but can plummet and fluctuate due to 0 KH. That can certainly stress fish out and cause issues.

If KH is 0 out of the tap, I recommend crushed coral as a start towards stability.

my areas water has  no kh out of the tap. I'll definitely get them some crushed coral and let them know the benefits. The ph is 6.5 and the gh is 0 which is weird because after retesting it shows their aquarium as having 180.
