PineSong
Any problems with adding floating pond plants e.g. red root floaters, dwarf water lettuce, salvinia, frogbit to my indoor tanks while I wait for it to warm up enough to put them out in my new pond when it's set up? I am aiming to set the pond up by May 1, so the plants might be spending a month in my tanks before then. I only have sponge filters in my tanks so none of them have much current. I was hoping the plants might start multiplying in my tanks so when the pond is up, I'll have more of them than if I had waited to order them until setup time. Odd Duck
I only grow floaters inside and have more Amazon frogbit and red root floaters than I know what to do with. I sell occasionally, give away mostly, and still throw away regularly. Good light, minimal surface current, and not too much condensation dripping onto the leaves seem to be the most important factors. Make sure they don’t grow so fast they shade out the plants underneath. Make sure you thin them enough they don’t start rotting in the deeper layers because they will stack up enough for the deeper layers to die and rot. My lights aren’t strong enough to get much red in the red root floaters (plus I maybe need to clean my tops more often), but they still grow well. 1
