subramn
I was wondering whether its a worth to buy UV Sterilizers as a preventive measure for new aquarium. any experiences
ange
I personally wouldn't make it a priority. In my experience, less is more when it comes to aquarium tech and it's easier to balance the ecosystem when there are fewer tools intervening. The best example I can give off the top of my head is that UV sterilizers will kill algae, however excess algae growth indicates some sort of imbalance in the water and that could go unnoticed and cause a problem if running UV. The problem is twofold because algae helps to remove excess nutrients from the water, but UV sterilizers preventing its growth leaves the excess in the water and could potentially harm your livestock. Personally I've never used a UV sterilizer and most likely never will for those reasons.
Ben_RF
I personally wouldn't, unless you are dealing with green soup algae.
Paul
@subramnIt's personal preference there is no right or wrong answer on this subject. That being said if you do decide to use it one of it's other benefits is that it kills free swimming disease causing organisms. There was a very long thread on this topic late last month if your interested.

Ken Burke
@subramn I wouldn’t uses a uv sterilizer unless u are combatting a problem. I have one in a tank that gets too much ambient light. It keep the green water at bay. in general, I would rather invest in another tank, fish, summer tub, or date nite with my wife.
