Fish Folk
I’m working on breeding Apistogramma Cacatouides. I’ve set up a 20 gal. long, a trio of Apistos, and just added 12x Pencilfish from my LFS. The LFS Manager doesn’t get Pencilfish in hardly ever, and I’m not certain he’s all that good at ID. I asked what his supplier claimed they were. “Coral Red Pencilfish.” Nope. No way. I’m sure they’re not. But can you help? Are these Beckford’s? Golden? Something else? Male: Female (?): Group: Sorry for all the live BBS in the water. Today was _that day_! Edited March 11, 2022 by Fish Folk

Patrick_G
Alex Williamson recently posted a tidbit about Beckfords Pencilfish on the GSAS Facebook. Apparently at night the horizontal black stripes become more like a series of dots to better blend in with vegetation. He posted some pics if anyone wants to check it out. @Fish Folk, it might help with your identification. Biotope Biologist
I agree with @Colu those look like goldens. Also Beckford and golden are synonymous as I think was also pointed out with the latin name in that post 🙂 coral reds are striking in person it’s interesting that the supplier was so wrong, but perhaps they too are not good with pencils.
