Plant suggestions for a 10 gal platy tank?

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions for plants for a 10 gal platy tank? (the platys are still in qt right now so the 10 gal is empty) This is my first time trying out a planted tank. I was thinking of maybe more leafy/bushy low light plants that provides more cover, since the females get chased around so much.

Currently in the 10 gal, I have anubias barteri, anubias goldcoin, some val, java fern and windelov java fern, which have all been there for almost 5 months (though both types of the java ferns aren't doing so well). I use Easy Green and Easy Root Tabs for the val, and I have Caribsea Super Naturals Crystal River sand for substrate, which I believe is considered coarse sand.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I have a relatively high pH that goes into the early 8.0 (I don't koow if that matters much with plants)

@mapleleaf218are you trying to breed your platys? I ask because if you want cover for fry it could change my suggestions. You have lots of slow growing plants which are great for low light but you’ll need some faster growing plants. I’d suggest choosing between Taiwan Lilly, Red Tiger Lotus and Dwarf aquarium Lilly - loads of color, easy to grow, great texture. Also bacopa caroliniana is a great stem also dwarf sagitaria is great for an easy grass like plant.

Crypts would be nice. My favorites are currently Crypt spiralis, that grows tall with long skinny green leaves, Crypt hudori that a pretty bronze color, low and bushy.

I’m not trying to breed my platys right now. I actually did some research about bacopa caroliniana and dwarf aquarium lily so I’m considering to get them. Are there any notable differences (besides the appearance) between the lilies you suggested?
