Emrie G
Hello! I went down to Aquashella Orlando this past weekend, had a blast, and am coming home with twelve or so blue dream shrimp. I have an established ten gallon I would like to add them to, but I'm using that tank as a grow out for platy fry. The fry are no more than two weeks old, but some of the shrimp aren't even the length of my pinky fingernail. Will the platy fry eat them? I have other options but they're not as ideal (a second ten I'd have to run a fish-in cycle with, a well established 2.5 gallon, possibly an established 5 gallon depending where I shuffle my bettas to). Thank you all in advance for your help and wisdom!
Scapexghost
If they're similar in size, i don't think there will be an issue. I keep cherry shrimp in my fry grow out tank, and i've never had a problem. By the time the platies are big enough to threaten the shrimp, they'll be big enough to move back with the adults. Here's a tank of mine with swordtail fry and cherry shimp. The swordtails were born 1/11 and i first saw the shrimplets 1/12. All the shrimp save the original 3 in the tank all grew up with swordtail fry the same age, so if your shrimp are older than 2 weeks i would think they'd be fine as well.
