Every morning, I try to look closely at my fish for a few minutes. Today, I caught sight of little spots that _might_ be Ich in my new Discus tank (40-gal breeder).

Now, you might all be saying NOPE! NOT ICH. But here’s the deal: this is not my first rodeo. Ich is the worst. I do not mess around… wait for it… no, I strap in and start the battle early.

(1) 30% water change. I use warm water, 80°-90° to refill. Ich dislikes warmth, but discus / rams / etc. do fine with it.

(2) 20-ml. Ich-X. Now… I switch to Kordon Ich treatment every 6-months or so, because a different chemical “recipe” tends to positively address the issue if the tomites have gotten used to the other.

(3) I use 1x Rooibos Tea bag for 24-hrs to recharge tannins. The fish always thank me!

Now, on to do the same thing with my 55 gal. Discus tank. Did I see Ich? No. Is it highly contagious, and did I dip nets in there? Yes…

So…

And! Oh yes I did carve out a makeshift cave for my BNPs.

Cue Barry White…

maybe its motion in the picture distorting things but one of those pictures looks much more like healing fin rays than ich. Definitely keep a watchful eye on it though.

I agree. The pectoral fins look like healing tissue. But there was more on the tails than I could get clear photos of. Definitely worth caution.
