I'm keeping mine with plants! Plus, who wants to look at an empty plant less tank? I wish I had figured out earlier that you had a link to this thread on that other thread. This is so informative! Maybe if I saw that before then there wouldn't be as many bits of coconut fiber all over my sand. Does the peat moss have that same issue?

You need to allow the media to rest in the container with tank water overnight _outside_ the tank, then add the whole thing _very slowly_ once everything is settled. Peat moss will also leave floaters drift out into the water column.
Fish Folk
Enjoying working with these African annuals, Nothobranchius guentheri. They’re nearing spawning age. From the time they get that down, that’s about all the males will think about for the rest of their lives. Here’s some photos… Here’s a video of them in this specimen container… specimen container - 12-12-2022" width="200"> And, here’s a longer video-ramble of their breeding setup.. Tagging @Patrick_G who is working with a set of these too… 5

Fish Folk
New peat moss breeding dish set up… (1) I bought a stack of 4x of these at W-mart (2) The lids are soft, but the container is glass (3) I cut out the center. The rim keeps peat in, and provides a touch of privacy that the killis seem to appreciate… (4) I boiled peat moss, picked out twigs / sticks, and put spawning jars into each tank section… When I feed, I try to keep food out of the jars if possible.

Fish Folk
Just these two annuals, yes. Non-annuals — F. scheeli, and F. sjostedti in the pipeline. Male N. rachovii are, IMHO, the most vibrantly colored little fish in the whole hobby… 3
