Fish Folk
I’ve really only seen 2-3 fry hatched from day 1. Maybe too early… who knows. But now they’re able to hit BBS. Check out the orange belly… Edited July 1, 2022 by Fish Folk 2 1
Beardedbillygoat1975
Killi babies always make me so happy. I colony breed my F82s so I just start to randomly see those bellies and it makes me giggle.
Fish Folk
Well… egg hatching didn’t go so well for N. rachovii. Just crossed state lines, and met with a breeder driving through to convention in Louisville, KY. Paid cash for three trios of N. Rachovii Biera 98. Exciting!! 1 1

I'll say this: if I successfully breed these Nothobranchius rachovii, I will attempt to gift some of these to you, @Streetwise, and others who keep gorgeous, (relatively) small, planted aquariums. They're everything you fell in love with when you set eyes on a colorful Tetra . . . and then moments later on a Betta . . . for the first time ever. They even move their fins like little Pygmy Sunfish too. 2

Fish Folk
Well, today my last N. guentheri female died. I’m not sad. She typically only lives 6-months max. Fortunately she’s left a bunch of eggs. Here’s a look at several… August 18th is the “hatch date.”
Fish Folk
N. rachovii setup… I plan to pull the peat / eggs every 3x weeks. Males are really colored up! Better than anything I imagined! Females are pearly in appearance. To me, they look like Medaka… Edited August 1, 2022 by Fish Folk 6

Fish Folk
Time to try hatching N. guentheri. I have struggled to make it past 72 hrs with Nothos fry. I think I’ve got a good process going now. Just doing 1/2 of the bag at first… Very light air running. Sponge running, but the uplift is above surface. Just the peat eggs were stored in, plus cycled water from discus tank. I’ll check back every hour here…
Fish Folk
Oh joy! N. guentheri are hatching… This is ca. 24 hrs after wetting the peat. Feeding vinegar eels 3x times per day. 1
Fish Folk
I started adding green water from outside tub to push these N. guentheri fry through until they can hammer BBS. Working great!

Fish Folk
OK! It's going to be "release day" for these guys. I'm tired of watching them in the floating tray. Here's the release to the full 20 gal. long... And... a bit later... here's a BBS feast... I've probably got 20-25 fry. It's easy to count about 18x. We shall see how they all do over the next month. I would absolutely love to see a lively colony tank like this video shows:

Fish Folk
Hatching more Nothobranchius guentheri. This is my final bag of peat. Added yesterday… Today, there’s a few fry appearing.
