PineSong
In my zone we are about ten weeks out from being able to set up tubs. and 12 weeks out from being able to put cold-tolerant fish in them. Since I do a 4 week QT on incoming guppies, this means I have 6 to 8 weeks to decide whether I'm going to bring in new fish and find a window of weather and mail-meeting availability to have them shipped. Or, decide to just use fish I already have--and do I want to mix this particular guppy with that particular guppy, or just have a mosh pit, etc. Also to decide how many tubs. Pretty sure I'm tempted to have too many--it will take discipline to remember that come October I will have to bring all the fish back in. Then again, someone leaves for college in August and his room will be unguarded and ripe for colonization... Anyone else already looking ahead to tub season? This will be my first time with outdoor livebearers.
JettsPapa
I caught all the guppies out of mine last fall and left them out with the plants and shrimp. I'll add fish back to them May 1 or shortly after (I tried it a couple weeks earlier last year and lost some fish when the temperature got down into the 40's). How many guppies did you put out to start with, and how many did you bring in, do you know? I had a brief fantasy of putting six girls and three boys out there but then I realized if all six of them fill up with 6 months of fry, I'll have more fry than I could ever keep or find homes for and most of them will be arriving after tub season has ended. But it seems crazy to set up a 100 gallon tub for two guppies!

PineSong
Well, several dozen is at least not several hundred!
