Sal Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Daughter wanted a nano tank, so for Christmas she got a 5 gallon and we added a few yellow shrimp and a gorgeous elephant ear betta from our fave LFS yesterday. I have wasted too much time watching these tiny critters today, and I'm not even mad about it.  🤣 Originally she was going to take the tank back to college, but now she is leaving it with me until summer... YAY! 4 3

Lots of plants and a small sponge filter go a long way to stabilizing nano tanks. Without that, their parameters can get out of whack. I'll be curious to learn if your Betta leaves baby shrimp alone in there, or lets them multiply. 2
Sal Posted January 11, 2022 Author Posted January 11, 2022 It's planted up and slightly modified with sponges and a bit of extra media - will get the same level of care as the 120 does. 🙂. She wants to add a small piece of manzanita, which I know can lower pH so I am a little nervous about that. Maybe I will boil and leach it in my my QT tank first? Advice welcome. I wasn't sure about the betta and shrimp as it seems there are 2 schools of thought there, so we shall see. So far Mr. Betta seems completely uninterested, but I know that could change.     1
Levi_Aquatics Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 I think it will depend on the betta’s personality if he will leave them alone. Some are a terror to shrimp and others couldn’t care less. 1
Jeff Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 Everything is fun about them except inserting root tabs. 😂 2
Patrick_G Posted January 11, 2022 Posted January 11, 2022 I totally agree! We currently have two 3 gallon, a 7.5 and a 11 (not sure if it’s a Nano). They’re a ton of fun, and water changes are so easy. 1
