Kurt Brutting
I see a lot of people place frozen blood worms and shrimp brine cubes into their aquariums. I thaw mine out then feed. Is one way better then the other or is it just convenience?
Administrators Cory Posted January 10, 2022 Administrators Share Posted January 10, 2022 A lot of people would say thawed is better. However I like feeding them frozen as they take longer to fall in the water column. This allows many of my mid water species to catch them slowly on the way down, instead of all of them falling at once.
Kurt Brutting
Awesome, thank you Cory!
Andy's Fish Den
I just put in frozen cubes or chunks for the same reason Cory stated, the pieces of food slowly sink rather than all of it going at once.

Intuos
I like to thaw mine and add them slowly in a couple of spots in the tank to ensure that the bottom feeders I have that enjoy them get some. But I don't think that one way is better than the other.
Torrey
I put frozen cubes straight into my tanks so the fish can play rugby with the cube, and to ensure all fish have access (instead of only the slowest). My old doctor was also a huge aquarist, and said with my autoimmune issues, I shouldn't handle frozen or fresh bloodworms, so I only feed those freezedried. I don't remember what she said was the issue, I just followed the directions.

There is a lady in my local fish club that ended up in the ER because of it, she didn't know she was allergic until she bought some frozen bloodworms to feed her fish and handled them to feed. Guppysnail
I like interacting with my fish. For adults guppies I hold the frozen cube in my fingers so most of it is covered. They come and grab them and swim in my hand and rub my fingers while getting them. Not saying this is better but it sure amuses me. 🤣 1
