DIY python?

Has anyone ever bought the required pieces of the python and then just bought hose in bulk? Is it cheaper this way? Or should I just spend the money and buy the real thing?

i have a friend who made his own. he bought stuff for filling and draining water beds. it was back then cheaper than buying a python.

I did that once.  Bought the hose at Lowe's.  The hose eventually collapsed in places due to the vacuum that was being pulled.  I went back to Python.

the python hose is high quality. mine is about 25 years  old, hose is still good. ive broken a few fittings over the years, like 2 or 3 fittings, but the python is quality. buy once, cry once.
