Betta Bulb Flowering?

So I know many bulbs plants will put out a pad or a flower, but I didn't expect it from a betta bulb. And not in my tiny 5 gallon either. The only thing this bulb is sitting in is a tiny terracotta pot with a little Fluval Stratum and it the tank gets a squirt of Easy Green every other day.

 

Is whatever comes out of this thing going to block all the light out of my 5 gallon? I have a 20 high it can go in.

Your betta bulb is an Apongeton. I have some in my tanks. I cut that bloom because some seem to say that it makes the plant die back- like when you don't pinch blooms off of a Basil plant. I've never tried the theory- I just cut them off.

Ah, that's why I asked. At the very least I thought it might waste a lot of energy doing that. If it was going to be a pad or something I might want to see it. But that's my favorite bulb right now, so off it comes.

I let one go for a bit this is all it produced above water before I cut it:

I cut one off my aponogeton this past weekend in order to prevent the plant from going dormant, and the plant made another one that I cut off this morning! It is determined. From the rate of growth that I saw on these, if I was gone for a weekend I'd be too late to snip it off.
