New plants...can I hold them in a temporary tank?

I am in the process of setting up a new planted tank. I will be buying quite a few plants and was maybe wanting to break it up in a few orders so I don't have to spend the money all at once. This may be a stupid question, but can I let the plants (with the pot) sit in my established aquarium while I wait till I have them all bought? How long would they last like this?

I leave mine in the pots until they have acclimated to the tank any melt has completed and they have started growing because it makes it easier to remove them if they don't do well or to try them in different spots.

Yep yours should be ok, depending on type some need the roots removing from the rock wool but just check the requirements

I would buy some clay or plastic pots  and put them in those some the plant don't totally lost the roots. that rock wool is what i don't like. I bought on box of clay pots and its still half full.

Pots similar to these. I like the 3" or 4" the 2" and 2.5" can work but 3" works for just about any thing you. depending how many plants you think you are buying buy  similar number. I think that this link has 20 but you can buy  less or more or pick some up at the local nursery or big box hardware stores. you don need the sauser so I would buy and for this. there are uses for them but not in this case.

most plants will do just fine kept in those pots they come in. they may not thrive, but as long as they are in water, and get some light, it'll all be okay.

I love keeping extra plants in spare tanks. If I ever have an emergency requiring a half dozen anubias, I am ready.

They will be fine. Add easy green to the holding tank so the plants have a food source. If they are rhizome plants like anubias Java fern etc. they will do better removing them from the rock wool to expose the rhizome if it is covered.
