Usually soaking in hot water or vinegar can get it pretty clean. I haven't tried bleach yet, but I imagine that'd do a good job as well if you rinsed well after and soaked in some dechlorinator. Streetwise is correct when they changed the felt, it was the same felt they used for their co2 diffuser which is a finer material and thus can lead to some issues in certain tanks.

Thanks for the cleaning tips. Hopefully it won't happen again.  I have a feeling it was due to crushed coral, which I won't be using anymore.
