Up North
Hello, I have a planted tank with corys, neons, rasboras and cherry shrimp. My corys seem to have ich but do not see it on any other fish. I could not get a clear picture of it, so will do my best to describe it. The spots are not as bright white as i remember ich being but more of a tan color. They will get covered with it then its like they shed their slime coat and will be clear of it for a few days then it creeps back. I use play sand for a substrate could they be kicking up fine sand and it sticks to them? I dont think that is what is happening because it has not always been happening to them. Thanks for helping! Colu
What are your water parameters what have you treated them with Edited November 22, 2021 by Colu
Up North
Do not know water parameters, have not replaced my test kit since kids decided to make potion with it. I do the same 33% biweekly water changes that I have been doing since the start of this tank.
Colu
From what your describing doesn't sound like ich the fact that it goes completely for a few days then comes and goes again are you sure it's not sand on your corys Edited November 22, 2021 by Colu
Gator
@Up North; I agree with Colu. While it's possible for Cories and other bottom dwellers to get ich, it sounds as if they're being coated with dust from your sand. I've never heard of anyone ever using play sand in their tanks, your Cories condition may be one reason why. Play sand is not as fine grained as construction sand so you have that going for you. You can buy a 50 Lb bag of pool filter sand at Wally World, Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, and Rural King for about $6.00 and it looks great, but needs to be stirred up every couple of weeks, I think you'll be happier with pool filter sand.
