How long can hydra be dormant? I upgraded a betta tank 4.5 months ago. I’ve not introduced anything new to the tank. I don’t overfeed. I feed a variety of pellets, bug bites, and freeze dried foods. Seeing hydra on the glass today.

Also, are there any ways hydra or other small water organisms can get introduced to the tank merely through the air?

I am not really worried about them, just fascinating when I see something new and alive in a tank suddenly.

They are called immortal hydra for a reason. The cysts are almost indefinite. Brine shrimp eggs often contain cysts it’s impossible to separate. I do think I read years ago they travel in dust particles as well. Any filter material or a nook or cranny could contain a cyst. Years ago I read a lot about them because they are fascinating. I think they can live like a thousand years ir some insane number.  Wish I could remember half what I learned but each year more stuff seems to just vanish from memory 🙄
