Dechlorinating water for large water changes?

For those who use a python or similar method to fill a large tank back up, how do you dechlorinate your water? Do you add the dechlorinator to the tank before, during, or after the tank is filled up?

When I used the python I would add enough dechlorinator for the total volume of the tank then fill immediately afterwards.

i start the water back into the tank, then while water is going in i add dechlorinator to the tank right near the mouth of the python. i dont think it makes much difference if you add before or during.

I’m so paranoid, I fill a rolling barrel with water, mix in the dechlorinator, siphon the tank, then pump the mixed water into the tank.  This is my rig to fill my barrel since my faucet doesn’t reach by itself.  🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I've done it both ways with no issues. Either way no treat the water with enough dechlorinator for the tank volume, not just the amount of water changed.

I’m with @Odd Duck I bin the water to dechlorinate then add to the tank. I pm paranoid plus occasionally absentminded and just know I’d forget. I put the dechlorinator on the right of the bin and once I add it sit it on the left just so I remember whether I used it in each bin 🤪

I use a dose equal to the volume of the tank and add to the tank when filling. 

Never had any problems but I live in an area with good tap water  that I'm happy to drink without filtering and  never get that chorine smell at the tap.  Good  dechlorinator works very quickly.

I know millions of people probably add all directly to the tank, especially using a python.  I’m old school when we had to off-gas in a bucket for 24 hours before changing water.  I guess it’s a bit of a hold over from that.  It’s not like I don’t trust science and chemistry.  😆 🤣  I just can’t help myself.  🤷🏻‍♀️

For my tank, I use a 5 gallon hedpak, add dechlorinator to that, then schlep it over to the tanks.
