yannachka
i’ve tried googling it but haven’t found anything. does anyone know where to purchase or diy a height extender for the fluval 3.0? mine is still too close to the surface at the highest option. maybe a way to mount it to the wall if anything? thanks! BlackLabelCarling
You could make a riser that is clipped to the aquarium and the light is then clipped to the top of the riser. I can see it in my head but can't explain it!
Administrators Lizzie Block Posted October 2, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 2, 2020 Don't know if I've ever seen this light modified. It is trendy to mount lights though, to add some height. Some people do it from a wall shelf or something similar so they don't have to bother with the ceiling. Universal mounts also exist, but you'd have to find the right one for your setup. This is from the r/plantedtank sub-Reddit, not my image at all:
MickS77
You could easily duplicate the original riser with flat stock aluminum available at most hardware stores or home centers. I wouldn't use 1/16 inch thick as shown, thats just all I had on hand. I think 1/8 inch thick x 3/4 inch wide would work better and be more sturdy. I would take the light with you to the store to check fitment. You can easily bend aluminum to get the 90° angle required to hold the light. Clamping it in a bench vise is the easiest way to bend it. If you want a perfect 90° bend apply a little heat from a propane torch and tap it with a hammer. Measure and drill holes where the screw comes into the mount to get the desired height. You could route the cord using stick-on cable clips. Edited October 2, 2020 by MickS77 3
Streetwise
Nice @MickS77! I run most of mine with the riser inverted for more height, but this takes it to the next level. I have a buddy working on a 3D-printed mounting bracket to fit rimmed tanks so I don't have to do weird stuff like this:

I doubt it would effect the integrity of the tank on a small size as a 10 gallon or less.
