Keeping a quarantine tank running 24/7

I'm going to start my quarantine tank.

Cory mentioned in a previous stream that if you want to keep your quarantine tank running all the time, and you're not going to have fish in it at certain times, that the best way to do this, is to have lots of algae in it.

Is this just a matter of running the lights for long periods when you're cycling it....to get the algae built up?

Or, is there another method of building up the algae that's easier that I'm missing.....?
