Alec
I am new to breeding fish. So, I am going to get some of these delta guppies. What kind of females do I get? Petsmart has the fancy blue, silver, and yellow. They don't have female delta guppies. Would any of these be okay? Also is the ratio 1:3 male female a good rule of thumb? Ron Uni
If you want to actually breed them buy the female from an on line breeder of guppies, those female guppies might be breed already. Mine were and I know because I have not introduced them to a male. 1:3 is a good rule Edited October 17, 2021 by Ron Uni

Was just wanting to try it out and maybe sell to my local store, just was wanting to know for sure what kind of guppies they were. I guess they can be sold as a "mix breed". Petsmart/Petco don't sell specific female breeds, so any breeding you do with them would be considered a mutt. This isn't to say that a LFS wouldn't be interested, just that you can't breed a specific line. If they are petty and healthy, a LFS might be interested but the bigger money comes from line bred pairs and trios.
Alec
Do you guys have suggestions on where to buy line bred guppies?
GameCzar
Lots of breeders sell on Aquabid, and there's several smaller breeders on YouTube that sell them as well. There was another thread a few days back with some great suggestions. 1

If you live in or near a city, there may be a local fish club and clubs usually have some folks who breed guppies. Try googling the name of your city or state and "fishkeeping club" or "aquarium club". I live in a small city and there is a club here that has a Facebook page, and has member swap meets/sales a few times per year. You could also google "guppy breeder Iowa" or whatever your state is, and you might find someone who raises them and has a website.
Dwayne Brown
@Alec My first ( and so far only) fish breading experience was with a close relative of the guppy the endlers livebearer. I would suggest that if you live near any fish stores to give them a call, and ask about a aquarium a breeding group of whichever strain of guppy interests you.
lefty o
you definately want males, and females of the same strain if you want to breed 1 strain. if you start with an unknown female, you are basically starting the line over and will have to do much culling over time to get the line you want.
WhitecloudDynasty
Petsmart will have mixed female, but if you keep your eye out you'll seen solid redtail female also which belongs with those redmale

If you have any locally owned fish stores (not chain) they might have some. Aquatic 360 in Houston usually has at least two specific strains, along with a couple tanks of mixed guppies.
