If you could tell your fishkeeping self something in the past, what would it be?

- just paint your backgrounds black, don’t install a ‘3D background’

- real plants!

- do your waterchanges with long hoses, not with buckets

- don’t mess with duckweed

- find your own path, what for some dude on the we isn’t working, might work for you.

- don’t buy RO water, just use rainwater.

Patience, patience, patience. Don't get in over your head, I got burnt out after only a couple months because I hyperfocused on this hobby a bit too much. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Take more pictures! I still haven't started a journal because I never take any pictures and by the time I set a tank up I have 0 pictures of it. 🤦‍♂️

The fish guy did not mean for you to change ALL of the water weekly.

A 29 is much easier to care for than a 10.

You don't have to use "aquarium" gravel

Keep those SS lights and hoods.

Filter cartridges/ bags can be rinsed and reused many many times.

Stick to cheap fish.

No matter what fish guy says, Columbian Sharks don't belong in a 10 gallon aquarium.

If by chance you manage to keep a Columbian shark alive in a beginner tank it might sting you.  (I did not know this)

Using aqausoil in your planted tank doesn't mean you will be successful.

All those really gorgeous looking aqauscapes cost more money than you think.

Rimmless tanks with hard water are not always the best idea.

Always have a spare heater that is the correct wattage.  They never fail when the store is open or when you don't have to leave for work.

That's why all nine of my tanks have black rims.
