GWells
Hi Folks! I have a Tetra with an issue, and I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is. I've attached 2 pics. Thought it was some kind of fungus, so tried Maracyn Oxy liquid for a few days, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. (Looked maybe a little smaller for a couple days, then might have gotten bigger again? Or maybe my eyes just can't tell anymore whether it's growing or shrinking...) Anybody know what it is? Many thanks!
Colu
It looks like it could be a bacterial infection something else could be going on what are your water parameters

Colu
A would treat with kanaplex in food it's a more effective antibiotic treatment if it's a bacterial infection
DannyBWell
@Colu does it matter if there's other fish in the tank should the sick fish be in its own tank or is it already in its own tank @GWells?

If no other fish are showing symptoms in the main tank I would Qarantine and treat on its own
quikv6
That looks like body slime. I like the Kanaplex suggestion, but you can also try API Fin and Body Cure.
GWells
Thank you, everyone for the replies! Sorry I didn't get back in sooner - family came home right after I posted. 🙂 There are other fish in the tank and I have not isolated the affected one yet - I will do so. My levels are: Nitrate ~40 Nitrite 0-0.5 Hardness ~75 Chlorine 0-0.5 Total alkalinity <Not sure how to interpret this green? Somewhere between 40 and 80?> pH ~7.6 Thinking I'll try the Kanaplex suggestion, unless the water levels point to something else. Many thanks - I'll update as the situation progresses.
Colu
It could be the possible nitirtes and chorine causing the issue do you use a dechlorinator like prime
GWells
I use AquaSafe Plus. I don't think it's chlorine... I only put 0-0.5 because the little square MIGHT be slightly off-white, but not significantly, so it falls somewhere between the first 2 colors on the Safe side of the comparison chart. Nitrites, I'm less sure because the jump from one square to the next goes from "safe" to "caution," and there's barely any visible difference. I might ask my wife to look at the strip because she has more cones in her eyes than I do, but I think that mostly helps with blues. 😄 I'm due for a partial water change this afternoon, which should nudge the nitrites down a bit... GWells
Umm... Anyone know where to GET Kanaplex or SeaChem Focus in Snohomish County? I was hoping to hit the Co-Op to get whatever I needed to help with this issue, but those products aren't listed in their shop. I'm in Everett, and the big chain pet stores have barely any selection (that's why I ended up with the Maracyn Oxy instead of the other one- it's all they had). Or is this something better ordered on (sigh) Amazon? The other suggestion also isn't in the co-op shop - API Fin and Body Cure.

You could treat with maracyn or maracyn2 maracyn2 is absorbed thought the skin so it's a good antibiotic for when fish aren't eating you can get them from the co-op
