They're not weeds, they're wildflowers - Free gifts from Nature.

When every plant you buy dies no matter what, try letting the "weeds" grow. It's really amazing what youll find. Every flower is considered a weed when it's where you don't want it. Here in the U.S. we get plants and seeds from nurseries and garden centers that come from all over the world and many are considered weeds in the gardens of their natural region. There are so many great plants here that people just don't know about. Why are our native flowers, trees and such not cultivated and sold in abundance? The bees, birds, butterflies and other wildlife would be much happier. In turn we would be happier, right? I was super happy to find a surprise rain lily flower in my yard last week... Till the lawn guy mowed it down while I got my stuff to dig it up... White flowers in the picture I believe are white sweet clover. They smell amazing and bees love them. The purple-ish ones are spiderworts. I also have blue eyed grass(?) all over my yard. Daily flowers even after mowing. Nature also gifted what I thought was blackberry plants but now know they're dewberries. Still edible 😋

You are in Beijing?

All through high school, our Mandarin teacher was preparing us for a trip our senior year and the Summer Palace was on our itinerary. My greatest disappointment was not being able to go.

Thank you for the beautiful pictures!

Yes, in Beijing. So sorry you couldn't see YuanMingYuan in person, the park is huge and beautiful, especially in spring! Nearly all my pictures in this thread are from there... more below and more is coming :)

That top picture could be such an inspiration for an aquascape, hopefully I can eventually make the trip. It's on my bucket list! I had a trip planned for 2020.... I was supposed to meet one of my high school buddies who ended up an English teacher in Wuhan in March as a combined "between" birthday for the both of us (he's April, and I am February)... we'd had it planned for a while... sadly, it didn't happen.

Maybe we'll be able to pull it off for our 60th birthdays, lol

Now see, scenes like this are why I've been trying since pre-pandemic to take a trip to Beijing. Unfortunately, the original plan was June 2020. x_x

It's getting harder to go to places even for locals, at the moment one has to have a fresh test results to enter the park. Boats like this were usually full of people... I hope the requirement will be lifted soon.

I've had small broyzoa colonies in my aquariums and really enjoyed them, I think they may still be surving in a filter tube some where. But while fishing this weekend I snagged a weed and pulled in a fist sized colony. It was so fun, more so that a big bass tbh. The gel colony was much firmer than I expected.
