GreenSorceress
Any ideas on what this cyst or sac on my crown pearlscale goldfish could be? Ammonia and nitrite = 0, Nitrate = 10, GH = 300, KH = 40, pH = 6.4, Temp = 78. I know I should probably add some more crushed coral to get the buffer/pH higher. In this photo, it appears to be an egg. Have you noticed this fish trying to lay eggs? It could also be a bit egg-bound, and may need some gentle assistance getting the eggs out. It does appear to be a little bit further down from where the eggs are deposited from. Maybe this is an egg that got stuck to her.
GreenSorceress
Thanks for the response. I'm fairly confident this fish is male because I noticed breeding stars on his pectoral fins last spring. There is one fish in this aquarium that could be female, but I haven't seen any breeding behavior. Also this fish has been a bit lethargic, so I think it might be an infection. But since he is a crown pearl scale I was wondering if they were prone to 'skin' conditions.
Administrators Zenzo Posted September 27, 2021 Administrators Share Posted September 27, 2021 Hopefully it's nothing serious, and maybe just an egg from another fish stuck to him.
Kathy F
I swear I read something about this once but I can't recall the details. The issue was specific to pearlscales and I don't keep them so I didn't pay much attention. Your best bet is try a goldfish specific group or forum. Maybe message Gary Hater on Facebook (long time goldfish breeder) to see if he has insight.
