growing algae with med trio

My stiphodon goby's came in before I was ready so I did the only natural thing... bought another aquarium. 

Would the med trio inhibit algae growth in a new quarantine tank?

They are taking to the frozen food but should get them some algae at some point here. I was thinking to leave the light on overnight and throw some fertilizers in.
