QUARANTINE

if you absolutely and positively have no room for a quarantine tank (for example a school dorm) what can you do to keep your losses at a minimum? 20 gal tank.  Planning on 8 scooling fish, a betta, 2 nerite snails, a few algae eaters and maybe red shrimp.

If you had no room for this:

If all your fish and other invertebrates all went in at or near the same time, then presto! That one tank is the quarantine tank.

Get a small clear tub with a lid, pop in an air stone and you’re good to go.

Thank you.  I'm thinking the same thing. Especially if I get them all at the same place.  It is not a huge investment and I don't plan on adding fish after my initial purchase nor am I interested in breeding.

20 gallons also isn't a super huge burden for meds only double what a lot of people do in a 10g. I'd treat them with med trio when u get em. Then u should  be golden

Sounds good ill try it.  Do you have to do anything to clear out those meds later?

I use a 15 gallon plastic tub intentionally, to avoid MTS. The only additional advice I'd add to yours, is that I keep a few small cichdlid caves, and 10 or so fake plants for everyone to hide in (no substrate).
