Karen B.
Anyone ever used it the fluval 29 gallons aquarium stands? It seems so flimsy to be holding about 400 lbs of water…
lefty o
ive not used that one, but imo most of the stands made to hold 40 gallons and under are very flimsy.

I am trying to find a stand or shelves for a 29 gallons at reasonable cost and it’s proving to be difficult. Even shelves that are made to hold 800 lbs - apparently the wood bows in the middle…
Kathy F
I tend to either favor solid wood stands or metal stands these days. Imagitarium Brooklyn stand is fairly sturdy, I use the 40 breeder size but it comes in a 29 gallon as well. I also have the Titaneeze double metal stand in 29 gallon but because it is designed to breakdown it has a some wobble but definitely strong enough to hold a 29 gallon without bowing. I have also used the AquaCulture 29 gallon stand about 10 years ago and it was sturdy although it isn't solid wood so be careful if it gets wet. All three stands are less then $100 in my area. Of course you can also employ the 2x4 wood planks with cinder block method which I have never done but seen others do with great success and that method should be super cheap even with the higher price in wood since you won't be using much. 1

Plenty of videos on YouTube on building these to give you some ideas.

IMO even the ones that come with bigger tanks 55-75G seem very flimsy. I know they work but I’ve replaced all mine with DIY racks. ive recently bought a 125G with stand from petsmart and it seems a little better to me. Don’t know why it’s made from same material (partical board shelving)as others but seems better constructed.

I love the imagitarium one but can’t find it where I live (Québec). Stands here are so expensive it’s ridiculous - 150$ for the fluval one for exemple! Guppysnail
I use solid oak furniture and coat it with boat varnish. You can often fin older used television stands made if solid oak no particle board ( don’t look at the mess look at the stand I was revamping the first tank) I also use solid oak bedroom furniture you can’t see it well but that is a chest of drawers. Heavy boat polyurethane protects it all and good built oak pieces are beasts for holding weight
