Clearance between shelves

Between the top of an aquarium and the rail of the next rack, how much space should I go for? 10 inches?

as much as you can get away with. the less the clearance above a tank, the more of a pain in the rear its going to be to clean.

Thanks for the response. I was hoping to get a 4 shelf in but it would be too tight. Going to leave room for storage up top

The minimum I think that's workable is 8, but 10 is definitely better.

I have 8.5” above my 10 G tanks in my stack and it really isn’t quite enough.  Another inch would do wonders for ease of maintenance.  I have 7.5” above my 5 G blackworm culture tanks and it is definitely awkward but I don’t have to siphon substrate in them, just do water changes after stirring the mulm a bit then letting worms settle back down.  It isn’t horrible, but very tight.
