xXInkedPhoenixX
Soooo someone offered to trade some of my Otocinclus for fry of these. I was just going to give him the Otos because he has a good home for them. The only place I'd have to put these in are my not yet fully stocked 20gallon tall the only inhabitants are 10 black neon tetras, and snails. I was planning on a Borneo Loach or 3 sooner or later, and maybe adding some of my home bred Otos. Wondering what my fishy friends think of the fish, and my potential home for them. xXInkedPhoenixX
This is one of his parent fish. Also keep in mind I have never kept cichlids.
anewbie
I can't figure out if platinum parrots is a colour morph or something completely different. Parrot fishes typically get 5 to 8 inches and are too large (bulky) for a 20 high. If platinum are simply a colour morph than eventually they will out grow the tank. xXInkedPhoenixX
@anewbieHe's telling me these don't get big- and per a link I found (and they're selling them for 80 bucks!) they get 1-2 inches. He called them Platinum Parrot Convicts, I also see them as Snow White Parrot Convict Edited August 8, 2021 by xXInkedPhoenixX
Beardedbillygoat1975
I’d want a 29 g at least, 40breeder would be better. If they are a convict - parrot hybrid then they’ll be anywhere from 5-9” for the males and females 3-6”, I’ve seen gentle ones and I’ve seen territorial and aggressive ones. They’ll rearrange the tank anyway they want so watch them in a planted setup. They may or may not prey on those neons each has their own temperament. Might be more unpredictable if this is a new cross.
xXInkedPhoenixX
@Beardedbillygoat1975 Ah so the information I'm finding about them being 1-2" max is incorrect? I think of a lot of cichlids as being potentially aggressive to other fish. It isn't/wasn't anything I was planning on adding to my tanks. Actually sometimes I'm kinda weirdly proud of being cichlid free. *****disregard you and @anewbie are right, they do get big. Thats a big no! THANK YOU Edited August 8, 2021 by xXInkedPhoenixX
shkote
I have one, she maxed out at about 3-4ish inches and more resembles the size and temperment of a Convict. A 20 gallon would be fine for one. I've never seen them get very large. Mine is in a 29 gallon alone because she's a very hateful little thing. One of my favorites though. 😄 Edited August 8, 2021 by shkote
xXInkedPhoenixX
@shkote well hateful or not cute little face. I think I'll have to refrain from getting one (which is what I was thinking at first, one) because I would have nowhere to put one if it became a problem child and I don't want more tanks or the sadness of having to rehome a pet.
shkote
That's a wise decision. I think anyone keeping cichlids should have extra tanks and backup plans. I love them, but they can be a pain, especially if you aren't used to dealing with aggressive fish. 1
Mad_Genes
How did the past year with these go? I just bought four, nickel sized, PPs and I'm curious to know of your struggles. My plan is to grow them up bigger and sell them back to the store or elsewhere... but I might fall in love with them, and if I get a breeding pair from the four who knows.
