ThomasLC
What temp do you fellow Dicus Planted Community Tank keepers keep your tank at?
Brymac1
I prefer to keep them at 86 degrees Fahrenheit. But anywhere from 82-88 is good.
HH Morant
How often do you change water? I am considering getting discus for a new tank but I saw several experts saying they change water every 3 days to keep discus healthy. That would be a deal killer for me. ThomasLC
Actually , due to my tank size and filter method (canister) I change about every other day. This was one reason why I am moving to a bigger tank with a oversized sump filter to reduce that to about twice a week. I'll have to keep a close eye on my water parameters to do so. A Dicus tank should be at least 60 gallons. This will hold 6 Dicus and some minor tank mates like Rummy nose tetras. And it needs to be a tall tank as well due to the size they get , 6 - 8 inches in diameter.
ThomasLC
Also, due to the constant water changes I have designed/developed a water changing system that works for me that makes do a 50% water change take about 15 - 20 minutes. No long at all. Most time is spent waiting for water to move.
HH Morant
Wow. Discus are beautiful fish. I am just too lazy to do that. And I couldn't go out of town for 3-4 days (much less a week) without hiring an expert to take care of my fish. Looks like angels for the new tank!
