Stacy Z
I have had Cherry Barbs in my 10 gal tank and I decided to add them to my 40 gal planted breeder tank Community. I have 2/1 ratio with 9 Barbs. Now I just added a 15 school of Neons Tetra with them. I know everyone worries about Barbs but the Cherry Barbs are peaceful. Sometimes the Neon and Barbs will school together or just swim with each other. My Barb just taught the Neons how they surf off the bubbles of the Sponge Filter, mostly in the mornings. Now the Barbs do chase each other from time to time BUT that’s apart of mating court. They never chase the Neons! It’s so adorable sometimes everyone is segregated into 2 different groups and sometimes their swimming together. However I just wanted everyone to know how amazing Cherry Barbs are in terms of “not” being nippy! Edited August 5, 2021 by Stacy Z
RachelElizabeth
I LOVE my 10 cherry barbs! I have 3 boys and 7 girls and 0 problems with aggression. They even get along swell with my honey gourami pair. I almost got neon rosy barbs by accident at my LFS, and I am so happy that I took the right fish home, haha.
Dkshadowwolf
I recently spawned a batch of Cherry barbs and now have about 30+ in my 29 gallon with about 15 ember tetras , tons of Crystal red shrimp and about half a dozen dwarf corries (hastatus). Everyone gets along great and often school together. The tank is heavily plant particular with suswarsertang which the shrimp love.
Biotope Biologist
We have never had issues with cherry barbs. Very peaceful and that red pops against the green background of plants. I vaguely recall having them with neon tetra as a kid but then again I don't trust my memory 😋
anewbie
Cherry barbs have a reputation of being among the least aggressive of the barbs. That doesn't mean they will never throw a tantrum but generally speaking....
Patrick_G
I’m a big fan of these fish. I have 15 including nine that were born in my community tank. It seems like they’re a bit under appreciated considering how colorful they are and how easy they are to keep. They look sooo go along side my Green Neon Tetras. I have lots of shrimplets surviving but I suspect some are getting eaten by my community fish including the Cherry Barbs.

Maybe I will consider a smallish school when my plants have really grown in

They have sometimes tried to eat their shed skins. I mean I’m sure I’ve lost a fry or baby here or there but most nano fish in general, their mouths are too small!
