The Odd One
So I was wondering if anybody knew why my driftwood shed its skin.( I don’t know if it was even the bark it shed) and then turned this really ugly black color. I had it soaking in a tub outside for the past month to get the tannins out and it’s been really hot, soI don’t know if that has something to with it too. If anybody knows what the problems is thanks in advanced!😊
Streetwise
It could be biofilm, which is amazing food for shrimp and other grazers.
Guppysnail
I can’t see the pics sorry. Most wood has bark that is attached to a (skin) it sometimes drops the bark before the thin wood skin and the skin sheds next. But it should be one layer. If it continues layering then I’m not certain.

If it is biofilm then that would be great since it’s going in my shrimp breeding tank. Thank you😊
Gannon
Is it a grey film?
Hobbit
I’ve found (and heard) that any wood you put in an aquarium will eventually grow a sort of black algae skin. The shrimp will love it but probably won’t be able to get rid of it. If you really really don’t like the looks of it, you may be able to combat it with an algaecide (sp?) like Easy Carbon. One sure fire way to get rid of it is to stick a pleco in there!
