CalmedByFish
With the current heat in the west, and the recent bizarre freeze in Texas, I'm again wondering what species of fish can take the widest range of temps. I've heard medaka (rice fish) are best for a wide temp range. What other species are particularly good with heat and cold BOTH?

Beardedbillygoat1975
I’d say Medaka do have limits in terms of temps. High 90s is not their friend. I lost one this last week. Despite doubling the amount of O2 I was putting in they still struggled so I pulled them into the garage. The thing I notice about ricefish is they won’t go to the bottom of the ponds they always stay at the surface in the hottest water. Can’t say they are geniuses. My whiteclouds have been incredibly hardy in this heat. Also I have a honey gourami pair and I think they really like it hot and they are labyrinth fishes so that’s an advantage. Goosedub
Endlers have a pretty wide range of temp tolerance, and Variatus platys, not as wide as a rice fish or white cloud though.
Daniel
Rice fish have a very wide tolerance range. I live in Zone 7a and they do fine year round outside. Pygmy sunfish can tolerate 30s F to 90s F no problem.
xXInkedPhoenixX
I can't remember now (which fish breeds made it through) but I watched most of the youtube videos from Goliad Farms and their devastating loss in the ice storm- I know his green houses get pretty hot too. I'd pick one of his fish! What survived has to be hardy stock. Edited June 27, 2021 by xXInkedPhoenixX 3
Randall from Texas
I lost my tank of enders that were wintering in my shop that week. The tank didn't freeze but it was super close. They do incredible in the heat and I've had them in the high 50s.

Do you know how white clouds do in cold?
