RyanR
Can someone tell me what this is on the back bottom of my Java Fern? It's been there for a couple of weeks and I don't think it's grown much or any at all. Ryan
Irene
I think it's java moss growing on the roots of your java fern? Couldn't expand your picture enough to really see...

Irene
Could be! I'm definitely not a moss expert by any means. Maybe try to post a closer shot of it?

Irene
Oh interesting! Now I have no idea what those fine, green strands are. Almost looks like a green staghorn algae? Whereas the thicker, green fronds on the right side of the picture look more like java moss (or some other kind of moss).
Ben Ellison
Could be staghorn or hair algae?

Irene, the thicker green fronds might be some pieces of Christmas Moss that's growing in the background. I've had staghorn growing on the leaves of the Java Fern, but I dosed Excel and it got rid of it. Edited September 20, 2020 by RyanR
FriendlyLoach
Oh, wow. I don't know. Probably some sort of algae. I did notice that the tips of your java fern are darker. Mine are that way. Dose anyone know if that is a deficiency?

The new growth is nice and bright green and the moss in the eco-complete in the first picture is some Christmas Moss that has come off of the bridge and is growing in the substrate.
