Lilibet Tavarez
I have a 20 gallon and ever so often I see detritus worms while gravel vacuuming. I just got my tank fully cycled. I think they came with some plants that also had snails. I want to get rid of them completely. Help?
Jungle Fan
Here is a link that might shed some light on this subject for you, before you get some chemical that guarantees to kill worms and planaria like another fishkeeper I know did. It worked great for him all the worms were dead, however happily ever after took a sad turn. The point he had not calculated was that those literally hundreds of dead worms were still where they had been before chemical warfare caused their demise, in the substrate, and they were now slowly rotting away causing an ammonia spike the likes of which he'd never seen before. A few detritus worms, are o.k. and actually beneficial, because they help eliminate organic waste. Too many means an abundance of waste, and that is more of a problem than the actual worms. However, here is the promised link, I hope it helps: https://www.petsnap.com/how-to-get-rid-of-detritus-worms-in-aquarium
