mosquito larvae in my aquarium?

Recommended Posts

Hello! A couple days ago I was doing water changes on my aquarium and when doing a makeover of my 75g's canister filter I saw what looked like mosquito larvae. in the bucket that I had been using for taking out water. I did a little digging and it seemed very uncommon. I was really surprised because I keep all of my aquariums in good condition and with a high water flow rate. Yesterday I noticed a fully mature mosquito on the wall in the room with most of the tanks. I wanted to make sure that this wasn't a coincidence since we do have a small pond with a water feature on the other side of our property. Has anyone else found something similar to the pics below in your aquarium? Oh and excuse the cringe worthy reflection. 😆IMG_4696.JPG.1e01870ad66e82e3c8de3ced603ccaa5.JPGIMG_4699.JPG.5a2c43117935a710584051b2d85e762c.JPG

Haven't seen larvae in ours yet, but bugs have a way of getting in! I found a little red ant crawling across the top of the water lettuce in our Okefenokee Pygmy Sunfish 20 gal tank this morning. (who needs bug bites??!! 😅)

I've yet to find them in an aquarium, but I've definitely spotted larvae in old, mostly stagnant ponds that used to be in my backyard. I'd grab em out with a net or tweezers and feed them to any fish that'll take em. I'd considered setting out some standing water to get mosquito larvae, but cabbage moths have been more convenient so far. I've been feeding my bettas cabbage worms and they go nuts for the live food. If it wriggles, they'll take a chomp out of it.
