geurty
i recently got a glass bowl (I know you shouldn't put anything in a bowl but this one is 5 gallons and I have 7 aquariums, all but one planted, so i feel like I know enough to try a large bowl) I'm planning on putting some cherry shrimp in it, and I was wondering if it is big enough for a few nano fish as well. Ember tetras maybe??? or chili rasboras?? what do you guys think.
FlyingFishKeeper
Hi, I think that that would be pretty much perfect! From what I've heard some of the problems with bowls is the low amount of area for the gas exchange to happen and since a lot of them don't have nearly enough water in them. 5 gallons is already quite enough, and you could add plants &/or an airstone/sponge filter to get more oxygen into the water.
TheDukeAnumber1
My favorite nano fish is heterandria formosa, not flashy but perfect for nano setups if you're ok with them breeding. To quote their wiki they also naturally live in "primarily in vegetated, slow moving or standing freshwater habitats". Sounds like they would be well suited for the large bow life to me.
geurty
@FlyingFishKeeper I do have lots of Java moss, one Java fern, and three crypts, also have a sponge filter in there so i think I’ll get some ember tetras, because our lfs has some in right now
geurty
@TheDukeAnumber1 I like them and have heard about them but I’m not sure if my lfs could get them, because we live in a kinda remoteish area. TheDukeAnumber1
@geurty They are available on ebay, aquabid, and depending where you are they could be in the creek down the way if you're in a southern state.
